Fabric Fancies

I've not had any time for sewing recently and am really missing it.  I thought I would have a browse and see what fabrics catch my eye hoping I can get some time behind my sewing machine soon.  Lots of inspiration around and as ever I am drawn to more blue based fabrics.  Quilt Market starts soon so there will be lots of photos tempting me all over Instagram, more to favourite and wait for them to be released in the Spring even if that does seem so far away.

I have already made the two dresses I will be wearing over Halloween along with these spooky tights.  I'm thinking this one for the day and this one for the evening complete with my little witches hat.  I have also only included one Christmas fabric, I have seen a couple I like but I still have some I didn't get round to making last year and all of the dresses I did make last year to wear again, got more than enough!  All of the fabrics in this post can be found at Elephant In My Handbag, don't forget you can save 10% off a single order using my exclusive code, check out the sidebar for more details.

Wednesday Wants

Ooops!  I know it's no longer Wednesday but I was poorly yesterday and didn't notice that it hadn't published - Blogger you suck!  I love this time of the year, we are approaching Halloween and Bonfire night and that means we are on the home straight to Christmas and which means SEQUINS!!  I bloody love sequins.  I'm not brave enough to attempt to make myself a sequin dress, those things wreak havoc with sewing machines and I don't fancy spending ages cutting them out of the seam allowance either.  I made do with metallic fabrics last year but I might have to crack out one of my favourite sequin dresses for the party season.   I am also very tempted by this asos number, it is perfect. What you can't see from this photo is it's made up of two separates, the skirt is attached to a vest and then the crop top bit you wear over the top is separate - think of the possibilities!!  I think I might just have talked myself into needing this dress.

 Dress: Asos

I love high necklines and long sleeves so absolutely adore this dress by Kiss The Sky.  I love the colours and the print too, nice and folky with a nod to the 70's.  Best bit is it's only £35, what a bargain.

 Dress: Asos

I assumed this was a skirt when it first caught my eye, on closer inspection it's actually a dress made to look like separates.  Not too sure about that bit but the skirt bit is gorgeous.  An easy way to bring a bit of sparkle into the workplace but would look just as good for a night on the tiles.

Wednesday Wants

Brrrr! Hasn't it been a bit chilly the last couple of days?  I have gone straight from not necessarily needing a coat to full on winter coat complete with snood.  Think I am about ready for the black opaques too, winter is most definitely coming.  I had best get ready!

I absolutely love the simplicity of this dress, it just looks so cute without being overly fussy.  I love the pointy collar, makes a nice change from Peter Pan collars.  The sleeves obviously get a big thumbs up from me too!  Perfect dress for kicking around in that will look ace with a pair of opaques.

 Dress: asos

Another pretty simple dress this time from Boden.  It comes in a few colours but I think pink has to be my favourite.  The skirt looks really full and like it hangs well, perfect for both work and play.

 Dress: Boden

I saw this on the Closet Autumn/Winter campaign and totally fell in love.  I know I really don't need any more coats but it's purple.  PURPLE!  And it has an awesome full skirt.  It's basically just beautiful and I am totally heart eye emoji all over it.  Swoooooon.

Wednesday Wants

My timeline is full of love for October and that surely can only be because it means Halloween is on it's way!   I spent the early part of Halloween last year with my then 2 year old nephew handing out sweets to all the kids in the neighbourhood (there were swarms of them!) followed by an adults only trip to the dungeons at Warwick Castle.  Wouldn't say it was that spooky but it was good fun.  Haven't decided what I am going to wear yet this year, I made this dress last year and I also have this one though I wore it yesterday so it's not just for Halloween, hehe.  I love wearing themed clothing even though I really hate fancy dress, a spooky Halloween dress is a must and I intend on wearing Christmas themed dresses from at least December 1st to the 25th again this year.

There are some awesome Halloween-esque goodies from Lazy Oaf again this year, I wore a skull dress to the awesome #lookscary three years ago (THREE YEARS AGO?! that's crazy!)  I love how they are obviously Halloween when worn on actual Halloween but cute enough to wear any other day too.  I really think KatyMitten should get the cat leotard, it has a tail and everything!

Another dress you could get away with wearing outside Halloween is this black number by Worn By.  It's got glossy printed bats and spiders and cats all over it and I love how the flared sleeves make it that much more witchy.  Worn By have a number of Halloween themed dresses and tops and they are all 50% off, result!

 Dress: asos

I have decided whatever dress I end up wearing I really need a pair of Halloween tights!  I have my eye one two pairs, maybe I will wear both dresses with coordinating tights - one for the day and one for witching hour!  Now to find my Crown and Glory witches hat and buy hundreds of sweeties to fill up that cauldron...

#YumiLovesWinter

I love Yumi clothing, they always have such wonderful prints such as this scenery print dress, so was over the moon when they reached out and asked if I was interested in participating in their new campaign, #YumiLovesWinter.  The campaign sounds awesome, they have selected a group of bloggers to showcase their Yumi winter looks and there are going to be weekly prizes for customers including a trip to Iceland for one lucky customer!  Lilah Parsons will be choosing the best #YumiLovesWinter look and announcing the winner in November. The is also going to be lots of winter style inspiration including street style and trend reports.  Something to browse while you're snuggled up all cosy on the sofa with a hot chocolate.

I had a hard time picking an outfit, there are so many beautiful dresses over on Yumi.co.uk, I really love this dress and this dress.  In the end I went for the distressed floral dress which has now been reduced to just £30.  I love the mix of colours and decided it is perfect for brightening up a gloomy day.  It's a bit of a different fit for me, it is more smock like than I am used to but it has of course got those all important sleeves.  I teamed it with a black cardigan with sparkly buttons to add a bit of interest and that much needed extra layer to keep me warm and then finished it off with this awesome black cape.  I've always wanted a cape but never found the one.  I wasn't sure if it would actually suit me but I decided to go for it anyway.  Every superhero needs a cape after all right?!  It arrived and I tried it on and guess what, I love it!  Plus it has a hood, an all round winner in my books.

Rainy Day Blues

Another day, another coat to share with you!  I really do need to clear out some old coats though, my coat addiction is almost on par with my dress addiction but they are so much heavier and harder to store - any storage tips?  I was torn between a couple of coats, there are so many lovely raincoats on the Joules website at the moment.  I almost went for this polka dot perfection, it's so cute.  This coat packs a pretty punch, not only is it 100% waterproof and half fleece lined for added warmth it is also bloody beautiful.  It doesn't quite cover all of the skirt though I have yet to find a raincoat that is both long enough and wide enough over the hips to allow for my full skirt without being way too big on top.  I went for a bigger size in this coat to allow my skirt a bit of freedom and stop it trying to ride up my hips when it is done up and it has worked.  It has an inner drawstring to allow you to pull it in at the waist and give it a bit of shape, I have done this slightly as I found if I pulled it tighter the front of the waist where there is no draw string bunches up when it is done up.

I have road tested it out in the rain too and am happy to confirm it is 100% waterproof, no soggy shoulders for me!  We have been trying not to let the weather prevent us from walking and wearing this beauty has certainly helped with that.  Still not fun when walking directly into the rain!  I did spy an umbrella with a cover in Tiger Stores the other day, suggested it to Gray but for some reason he thought I was being silly.  Hehe.  I'm not an umbrella kinda girl anyway, much prefer a hood and not having to share my shelter.  The coat is really lovely quality and I am super happy with it.  Almost wishing for another excuse to need to wear it!

Coat: Joules*
Dress: Made by me using Hotsprings fabric by Cotton & Steel

I'm not the only fan of Joules in my family, my little nephew Fable loves his foxy comforter, I can't find it online now but they have this awesome fox rattle which I think I may also need to purchase for him.  Isn't he the cutest!
