Made By Me #31

This will be the one I don't like.  I planned it for ages.  I got the lovely people at Plush Addict to put the two fabrics together and send me a photo so I could be certain they worked together.  I ummed and ahhed over which to make the skirt and which to use for the bodice and even which way round the bodice fabric would be.  They are coordinating fabrics from the same collection so I knew the colours would work but together as a dress I am just not sure.  I have only worn this dress once and really didn't feel good when wearing it.  I can't put my finger on what it is that I don't like.  I like both fabrics individually but together they have resulted in MEH.  What do you guys think?  Do you agree or is it all in my head?!

Dress: Made by me using Makower Henna Spot and Zig Zag Fabrics

  1. Mmmmm, not sure. I like both fabrics and the dress is pretty but I'm not wowed over by them as I have been by some of your more novelty prints. Perhaps that's it? You're used to one statement fabric rather than 2 slightly more generic ones?
Still it is v lovely anyway!

    1. I have other non novelty print dresses that I absolutely love so I am not sure about that one. I think if it was made fully in either fabric I would love it!

    1. Thank you, I stopped wearing as much pink when I went ginger but am slowly starting to wear more of it.

  3. I like it, but agree it maybe needs something to lift it. Piping, maybe? In the darker aubergine(?) colour. Of course, you'd need to take it apart to add that. Maybe just a darker belt if you don't fancy reworking it?

    1. Yeah that's not gonna happen! Haha. I wish I liked wearing belts, I find them really annoying.

  4. I's a lovely dress but I think I'd prefer it if the top half had a little less going on, both fabrics are really 'busy' and neither get's to be the solo star of the show, both are amazing prints, but paired with something plainer would make them shine in their own right!

That could just be me though!

  5. A black belt should help!

Oh, and I'm sorry if you already addressed this on your blog and I missed it...why do you always sew dresses with the same pattern/silhouette?

  6. I have been meaning to contact you for ages to say how amazing Rosie's dress is and how delighted she is with it. The first time I saw her after you'd met up she was wearing it - it fits perfectly and I love the fabric.from Ruth xx

    1. Thanks so much Ruth. I was really pleased how it turned out. The one you made Rosie is so cute, I've been told matching up the waist seams with an invisible zip is really hard and yours were totally spot on!

  7. Have you tried wearing it with a black cardigan (or is it navy?). Or a black belt as someone suggested. Something plain to balance the two fabrics.

    1. I'll try it with a cardigan when it gets cooler and see how I feel about it then :)

  10. Well I do think it's very pretty! Is it something to do with the coloured spots on the bottom bit? Maybe if they had been blue it might have worked together - or reverse colours with pink spots? Either way don't disown it love, could you fix? <3 Claire @ Jazzpad

  11. Bit late to the party here, but I just found you. My first thought is that it needs a belt and a collar or necklace. But since you aren't a fan of belts, have you considered applique ribbon around the waistline to look like a belt without feeling like one?
