Acrobat

The way I shop has changed as a result of my dressmaking.  I really didn't expect it to but it has had a massive impact on my life.  I am obsessive by nature, if something is worth doing I throw myself into it fully.  That might explain why I finished dress number 18 on Friday!  I really didn't think I would be making 3 dresses a week, but I can't wait to turn the amazing fabric I have bought in to a pretty dress and wear it with the 'I made this' glow it creates.  Fantastic feeling.  I have started pricing things by how much fabric I could buy with the money, a made by me dress costs around £35 in fabric so that dress I kinda like but doesn't fit that well or I would prefer had pockets or wish was a few inches longer no longer get purchased.  It has to be something pretty different to get me to part with my cash.

One thing that will make me hand over my card details is a well made dress in an amazing print.  Emily & Fin really don't need to worry about losing my custom, they always tick every box.  I fell for this Lucy dress as soon as I worked out what the print is - acrobats!  I've said it before, green is a colour I don't wear enough.  I struggle to find stuff I like in greens that suit me, I think this has to be my favourite green dress yet!  The vibrant colour works so well with my hair.  The cute acrobat girls make me want to run away and join the circus.  The longer length Lucy was introduced to the main collection this season, I had spied a Modcloth exclusive last year and kept my fingers crossed.  I did think I would need to take it up a bit but have held off doing so mainly cos hemming is really dull but also because I haven't quite decided.  I think I would prefer it knee length rather than below the knee, what do you think?  Also don't forget to take advantage of the 10% discount code at Aspire, they don't have this dress but they do have lots of other lovely Emily & Fin designs.  The code is million10 and is valid til this Thursday.

I am an absolute sucker for a cute little novelty bag, my favourite recent purchases being this camera bag and this apple bag.  Sometimes though you do need a bigger bag and this bag from La Redoute is just perfect.  I tend to go for a neutral that will work well with most of my wardrobe - ie black!  I am loving handheld bags at the moment and this bowling bag is so roomy whilst still remaining relatively compact, a difficult feat.

Cardigan: asos (similar)
Shoes: M&S
Bag: La Redoute*

I hope this sunshine stays with us, although I don't like the heat of summer the world is a much brighter place when the sun has got his hat on.  Hip hip hooray!

  3. You must have sewing in your genes! Well done on dress #18. I've been sewing for 30 years and have only made 5 dresses this year!

I love the green dress and think the longer length is great - nice to switch up your hemline now and again :)
