Sew Sunday #3

Giraffe love!  I bought this fabric before Christmas intending to have a dress made for me but that all changed when I decided to get a sewing machine for my birthday and you already know the rest.  It combines several of my favourite things, giraffes, hearts, yellow and grey!  That's grey the colour not Gray my husband ;)  I have been drawn to grey based fabrics, I had forgotten how much I love to wear the colour.  It's not just for decorating the house.

I had a few difficulties with the fabric, it feels softer than the other cottons I have worked with so far and I ended up with gaping around the neckline even though the measurements are exactly as the raccoons dress.  I have now fixed this by strengthening the neckline so it hangs better and taking in the shoulders at the neckline but it still isn't perfect.  I know it's crazy, if it was shop bought I would be perfectly happy with the fit but as I have made it myself it needs to be perfect so it is annoying me.  If you have any tips or suggestions for me I would really appreciate them!

Dress: Made by me using Giraffe Love fabric from Michael Miller
Pattern: Emery by Christine Haynes
Shoes: Clarks

I am excited to be taking part in a sew along in honour of my lovely friend, Roisin.  Full details can be found here, I am looking forward to seeing all the Dolly Clackett inspired dresses.  I have sorted my fabric already and in true Roisin style the dress also has a name, eeep!

  7. Oh, that fabulous giraffe dress! I loves it!!

I am sooooo excited about Sew Dolly Clackett, too!

  8. How fantastic to be able to make the perfect dress for yourself!

  9. Perhaps your interfacing around the neck wasn't stiff enough. That's when it usually happens to me. I do usually have to do a narrow shoulder adjustment as well though to reduce gaping

  10. You are so sweet, I can't wait to see what you cook up for the sewalong!

  11. Fabulous material, I love it!

I love comments, thank you xx
