Sunday Sweets #23 Easter Rocky Road

If you gave up Chocolate for lent and made it this far I salute you!  I had to make sure this weeks baking installment is suitably chocolatey for you all.  Rocky Road is so simple to make and as it's Easter Sunday I thought I would share an Easter themed version, you can use any of your favourite Easter treats, I went for mini bunnies, mini eggs and creme egg splats.  I would usually use mini marshmallows but couldn't get any anywhere so went for standard ones that I chopped into three before adding.

200g Dark Chocolate
50g Milk Chocolate
2 tbsp Cocoa
135g Butter
2 tbsp Golden Syrup
100g Mini Marshmallows
200g Digestive Biscuits
200g Mini Eggs
2 x Packs Mini Malteaster Bunnies
1 Pack Creme Egg Splats

Line an 8" square baking tray

Bash up your biscuits until they vary between dust  and 50 pence piece lumps

In a large saucepan melt the butter chocolate and golden syrup over a gently heat stirring continuously until there are no visible lumps of chocolate.  Remove from heat

Add the biscuits, marshmallows and mini eggs and egg splats to the chocolate mixture.  Stir until everything is completely covered

Tip the mixture into your baking tray and make sure you spread it out to the corners

Top with your bunnies and add a few eggs and sprinkles if desired

Refrigerate for at least two hours then cut into slices and enjoy!

Electric Dreams

Bring on the long weekend!  As you're reading this chances are I am still asleep... unless it's after midday and then I promise I am up, haha.  I'm a little bit sad that this is my last of the outfit photos taken at the beautiful Norbury Manor.  I might have to build a rustic wall in my garden (If I ever finally move!) for the purpose of outfit posts.  In all seriousness I haven't actually checked out to see if there are any suitable walls, eeeekk!  I guess any clearish wall is better than the high gloss wardrobe option I currently have and hopefully there won't be a sofa bed photo-bombing my full length pictures going forward.

This jumper is much brighter IRL, it most definitely is an electric blue and I love it!  I love wearing cropped jumpers as they mean I can add the warmth without all the bulk, they end right at my waist which is the most flattering bit for me.  I have been wearing it with my new orange gem necklace and over co-ordinating with my Brit-Stitch rust satchel and orange nails.  That reminds me if you haven't yet entered the giveaways I am currently running don't forget to do so! There are links at the top of my side bar :)

The skirt was purchased on a whim from River Island when I was trying to find a heavier weight high waisted plain black skater skirt.  That was a bit of a mouth full! It's not that hard to catch my eye but it has been worn loads already.  It's now half price at only £10 so snap up a bargain, link below.

Skirt: River Island

Whatever you're doing over this lovely long weekend have fun and make sure you eat lots of chocolate, it's allowed!

My style is pretty set, I know what I like and I know what suits me and do not deviate often from this tried and tested formula.  This got me thinking about brand loyalty and more specifically my love of converse.  I don't have much loyalty when it comes to buying dresses- you make a pretty dress at a good price chances are I will want it.  Shoes are a bit different though, I have been there with cheap shoes and my feet didn't appreciate it one bit.

I only took two pairs of shoes on holiday with me last year, a pair of sandals for the beach and my favourite Converse.  They went with all my dresses (there were a few!) and meant I could explore for miles without worrying about sore feet.  I was sad when it was time to retire them for winter and dig out my boots.  I have been wearing my new wedged Converse non stop since I got them, I know they are not to everyone's taste and some even feel that something as iconic as Converse shouldn't be messed with but they are so comfy to wear.  And you can't see the wedge from the front, they look like a standard pair of converse ;)

Gray's shoes of choice also happen to be Converse, he even wore them to our wedding along with his ushers.  I joined them in the evening and was grateful to kick off my heels and switch to something I could dance in (read as jump up and down in!)

Tate has already worn his first pair of Converse a few times and has three more pairs waiting in the wings for when he starts to grow out of them.  There is something about mini Converse that makes me coo.  Forget the actual baby I go gooey over miniature Converse!

There is honestly nothing more adorable than a kid in Converse as my niece Emma showed at our wedding.  We have bought her brother Charlie a pair for his first birthday too!

I have been browsing the Converse from Bank Fashion and have added these to my wishlist, how amazing will they look come summer with a pretty little dress?!  That is assuming we have a summer this year...

Are there any brands you remain loyal to?

Wednesday Wants

Another week, another wishlist!  You might have noticed that I have been digging all the cobolt blue items out of the back of my wardrobe and teaming them with my recent monochrome purchases, I think they work so well together.  This weeks wishlist is entirely blue, I would team the dresses with my fab new orange eBay necklace and orange nails!  I am really loving electric blue and orange together although am not brave enough to wear more orange than nails/accessories... would you team orange with orange hair?!

 Dress: asos

 Dress: asos

 Dress: Topshop

Necklace: asos

I already have the above asos necklace in burgundy and love it but it's £18!  If anyone can track me down one on eBay for cheap I will love you forever!  I am hoping Gray will see the other necklace and take the hint... it worked with the KitchenAid so is worth a try right?! Haha.

Are you drawn to any colours right now?

Electric Spots

I wore this bargain h&m dress in the Brit-Stitch giveaway post and felt that as that post focused on the beautiful satchel it deserved an outfit post where it was centre of attention!  Saying that don't forget to enter the giveaway if you haven't already!  I love how it looks with my blue h&m fluffy cardi, can you tell I currently have a thing for electric blue?!  Gray treated me to the dress as he knew I would love it, he was right!  I have since been back and picked up the skirt version, both are only £12.99 and made from a lovely weighted jersey fabric.

 Dress: H&M
Cardigan: H&M
Trainers: Converse @ Spartoo Shoes*

I am not going to go into too many details but please keep your fingers crossed for me this week, hopefully we will be exchanging contracts and I can stop stressing over the big move.  I really cannot cope with another week like last week :-/

Sunday Sweets #23 Salted Caramel Shortcake

I love millionaires shortbread and wanted to try it with salted caramel as for me the only thing better than caramel is salted caramel, yum!  The recipe on the side of the Carnation condensed milk can says that you can use broken up shortbread mixed with melted butter for the base which would make it even easier.  I didn't have any shortbread but did have the ingredients to make my own.  Next time round I think I will swap the chocolate for dark chocolate and maybe use half the amount listed, it was a bit too chocolatey for my tastes, I prefer the flavours of the caramel and shortbread.

For the Shortbread:
175g unsalted butter
75g caster sugar
1 vanilla pod, split and the seeds scraped out
225g plain flour

For the Caramel:
150g butter
150g soft dark brown sugar
1 397g tin condensed milk
1 tsp sea salt

For the topping
300g milk chocolate

Heat oven to 180C / Fan 160C / Gas 4

Grease and line a 9” square cake tin
Rub the butter, sugar, vanilla seeds and flour together in a bowl to make a rough dough
Press the dough into the cake tin and prick all over with a fork

Bake the dough in the oven for 5 minutes then reduce the oven to 150C / Fan 130C / Gas2 and bake for a further 35 minutes.

Once cooked allow to cool in the tin

Heat the butter and sugar together in a pan gently stirring until melted together

Add the condensed milk and bring to a rapid boil stirring continuously

Cook for a minute or so until the caramel has thickened

Add the sea salt

Pour the caramel over the base and allow to cool

Chill for 30 minutes until set

Melt the chocolate and pour over the set caramel

Allow to cool and chill until set

Serve with a lovely cup of tea and enjoy!

Alibi Pretox Drink

Alibi is a pretox drink containing a blend of 19 essential vitamins, minerals and natural herbal extracts with no artificial nasties and thankfully no caffeine!  It also comes in at under 100 calories and is designed to replenish, rehydrate and support.

I was lucky enough to be sent a case of Alibi a few months ago, it originally helped me get through the busy Christmas period without too much of a sniffle.  I really thought I was heading to full on festive fever but a can of Alibi a day managed to keep it at bay and allowed me to keep going.

Alibi also kindly gave me £40 to put towards an activity so I saved the rest of the drinks and put the money towards my recent bloggers get away to Norbury Manor and made sure I packed my walking shoes!  I had a pretox drink before I left to help boost my immune system and make sure I was in tip top shape for all that cake eating and gossiping!

The drinks are available in either citrus or pomegranate flavours and both were a big hit with the girls, I had drank most of the citrus ones myself - that one is my winner!  I no longer drink anything other than water and tea (ignoring the couple of glasses of wine I treated myself to this weekend!) and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't find them too sweet or artificially flavoured.  I would definitely buy them myself if I was in need of a pick me up.

We set off on a walk in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and I must confess that the country air combined with the alibi made me feel on top of the world.  And it really did help with that hangover on Monday morning, bonus!

Geo Squares

I wore this outfit on my first day at the manor, I wanted to add a splash of colour to my wardrobe which has recently been very monochrome.   I picked up this little asos jacket in their flash half price sale, I've had my beady eye on it for a while!  I was originally planning on wearing it with some subtle monochrome but decided that it would look great with my lace New Look dress and I think I was right.  I don't think I've shared this New Look dress on here before, it was a regular over on my instagram feed last summer.  So easy to wear.  I love the way bright blues work with my hair which is getting brighter and more copper each time it's coloured.

Jacket: asos
Dress: New Look
Trainers: Converse @ Spartoo Shoes*

It's great having someone take outfit photos for you, I usually have to take lots of photos and pick the best of a bad bunch.  Not this time!  I really love how the photos turned out and think that Rosie needs to come live with me.

Thursday, 21 March 2013

Last weekend I rocked up to a beautiful National Trust house with 11 other bloggers and a little dog called Bodhi for a fun filled weekend that consisted mostly of cake (and taking photos, natch!) Norbury Manor is breathtaking, set in stunning grounds right next to a Medieval church it was hard not to imagine being the lady of the manor.  We had all seen the photos of the house but they honestly do not do it justice.  It is so opulent with wooden panelling and luxurious furnishings everywhere.  And it is huge.  The master bedroom is the biggest bedroom I have ever been in and that's ignoring the adjoining drawing room!

We spent our days lounging around, eating cake and drinking tea and our evenings playing boardgames, watching Clueless and 10 things I hate about you, perfect!  We did manage to fit in an afternoon stroll to help burn off some of the cake and take in the beautiful countryside.  And of course we took plenty of outfit photos, I will be sharing mine with you all soon!

A big thank you to Alex for inviting me and organising the whole thing, it was such good fun.

Wednesday Wants

This weeks wishlist is all about the giant spots!  All the dresses I have been drawn to this week have one thing in common, polka dots and bloody big ones at that.  I'm still very much loving monochrome and have been adding splashes of blue and orange into the mix.  I found an amazing necklace on eBay the other day and have ordered in both the orange and blue colourways!  Cannot wait for it to arrive, such a great price.  If anyone can find me a similar one to this I will love you forever.  I am not paying £40!

Dress: Very

Dress: Topshop

Dress: asos

Trainers: Converse @ Spartoo Shoes

How beautiful are these Liberty Converse brogues?!  First floral thing I have wanted in ages, will look really pretty with a little summer dress.  Oh please hurry up warmer weather...
