Hello 2013

I am not very good at making New Years resolutions.  Actually that should be I am not very good at sticking to them... ha.  Every year I vow to lose weight, get fit and eat better and never quite manage to keep it.  This year I promise myself to actually do these things but am not putting any pressure on myself - no target weights to worry about.  I have bigger goals in 2013!

In the next few weeks my little sister will be giving birth to a baby boy.  I am going to be his only real auntie and know I need to take this seriously.  He needs someone to educate him in music and to make sure he gets to go to all the gigs he wants to, that will be my role! Unless of course despite my influence he doesn't end up an indie kid, I can't face going watching boy bands no matter how cute my nephew may be! Until he is old enough for gigs I vow to buy him the coolest clothes I can find and teach him as many words as possible.  I will be auntie grammar - he will grow up knowing the difference between their/there and they're.  I will read to him and if he is really unlucky even sing to him.

2013 will also be the year Gray and I buy a house.  We have lived in our flat for 2.5 years or so and although I love it dearly I really want a big kitchen that I can make the hub of our home.  My Kitchenaid was bought with my dream kitchen in mind so it's time to make it a reality.  Gray buying me the Kitchenaid for Christmas was his way of saying we are ready now, lets do it!  It's a massive step and I am quite scared - I want it to all be perfect.  Our dream home came up for sale in the summer and sold within a few hours :( There are only a couple in the same style on the estate so we might have to widen our search but we do know that we want to stay in Warwick if possible.  We've also got the stress of selling our flat and the whole actual move bit but I know it will be so worth it once it is done.  It's going to be so much harder than moving into the flat was, we bought everything new and it just arrived and we (Gray) put it together.  So scary but so exciting!

Because we want to make our dream home a reality I am also going to try and cut my spending and think more about what I am buying.  I am compulsive and know I spend far too much money on clothing.  I have always justified that as I am not in any debt that it is fine for me to spend my hard earned on whatever I like.  It feels like I should be more responsible and start 2013 with some serious saving in mind.  I am going to take a long hard look at this photo of my discarded clothing whenever the urge to go crazy takes hold.  I am going to try and limit myself to one dress a week which might still sound like a lot to some of you but is really a drastic cut for me.  If you fancy snapping up any of my cast offs I have uploaded a selection here and will add more when I get the chance.

I also vow to take better care of my skin.  I haven't really ever had a skincare routine and although I have been mostly lucky I have been having a few issues recently and want to address this.  No more going to bed without taking my make up off!  The first products I have been using are distilled witch hazel as a toner and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo both recommended to me by Liz.

So there we have it, these are my plans and wishes for 2013.  Have you made any resolutions or plans?

  1. I've heard loads of good things about that La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, may have to try it to sort out my skin before the wedding. Good luck saving to buy your house, it will be so worth it when you have your kitchenaid in it's perfect home!

  2. That's really exciting that you're going to buy a house, hope the search goes well. Also, definitely a good idea to start your nephew's music/grammar education early! I've made a list of fun things I want to do this year, but I think my main resolution is going to be to be nicer to myself. We'll see... Happy New Year xx
