Wednesday Wants

Where has this week gone?!  It only feels like five minutes ago since I posted my last weekly wishlist and it's that time again already!!  This weekend I will find time to take some outfit photos, I promise.  I must admit I don't feel the need to blog outfits as frequently as I used to since instagram took over my life. Ha!  I do love a quick outfit snap each morning and at that time of the day a good filter is every girls best friend... if you want to follow me on instagram my username is amilliondresses.

Anyway onto this weeks top picks.

Dress: asos

Dress: Very

I love paisley!  Not sure about the 'quilted' part but boy is the paisley print on the asos dress tasty. YUM!!  It's pretty pricey at £55 so worth waiting for a little discount code if asos ever decide to treat us all to one again... seriously they are so scarce these days!

Boucle always appeals to the 'lady' (read old woman) in me.  The colour is spot on and this little gem will look as great in winter with thick black tights as it does this summer with thin black tights. Ha.  Seriously summer please come back, I was only joking!

I love this Very dress and it is going on my 'when I have a flat tummy' wishlist which will defo be sometime this year.  Apart from the not that flattering over the tummy shape it ticks every box for me... sleeves, cute collar, cute matching cuffs, monotone and a non floral print. Super cute.

What have you been lusting after this week??

Wednesday Wants

Almost forgot to post my wishlist today, too excited with pattern cutting or something like that :)  Okay pattern cutting is actually really dull but it's a necessity if I am to make my first ever dress.  And that really is exciting!

Lots of sales have started this week but thankfully there has still be a steady influx of gorgeously girlie dresses.  The asos one is my absolute favourite.  Sequins are always a winner in my eyes and the mermaid effect is just beautiful.  It's not badly priced at £55 either.  Swoon.

Dress: Zara

Dress: Boohoo

Sales - Top Picks

As I am sure you'll all realise I'm not usually one for waiting for the sales to start before buying that gorgeous dress that caught my eye.  I've been burned too many times waiting for a pretty dress to go into the sale only to be unable to get it anywhere once it's reduced.  There have been many beautiful dresses recently that I really love but felt really were over priced and quite likely to head for the sale rails.  So I have waited it out and I have now managed to buy all four items mostly at half price, result!

My top picks currently on sale are:

 Dress: Miss Selfridge
Was £42 now £20

 Dress: Miss Selfridge
Was £39 now £18
 Dress: Warehouse
Was £50 now £30

Leather Skirt: Oasis
Was £95 now £50

Dress: Dahlia
Was £60 now £30 using code FRIEND50 (til 17th June)

Closet Dress - Dorothy Perkins
Was £35 now £10 (!!)

The top four are the items I have already purchased, I have had my eye on some of these for months!  Some of them have sold out online but you should still be able to find them in store, I did :)

Dahlia have a secret preview sale of selected items and this is by far my favourite, much better priced at £30.

I have a few of the bottom Closet dress from last year (when I picked them up for £15!) You really cannot go wrong at £10, they are easy to wear and super flattering.  This dress is currently available in lilac, pink, turquoise and white... wouldn't blame you if you bought all four!

What are your top sale picks?

Something For The Weekend

This week has been crazy busy.  I didn't even have time to post my weekly wishlist so thought I would share a few treats from Bank to ease you into the weekend!!

Bank isn't a shop I used to spend much time in.  I am sure they are well aware of this but they had a rather bad image and even in moments of desperation after running round the rest of the high street looking for a new night out outfit I wouldn't bother checking to see what they had on offer.  I am happy to say all this has changed and I am the proud owner of not one but two clutch bags from Bank.  They are beauties, perfect in every way.  I wouldn't have found them if they hadn't of cleverly displayed them in the window so they could taunt me with their beauty like a siren on the rocks.

The pink one above has just gone into the sale online and is now only £8!! I am so glad that the beautiful clutch bags lured me back into Bank and I have now discovered LOTS of pretty dresses that are filling up my wishlist.  They stock lots of great brands including Glamorous and even have a few Glamorous dresses I haven't seen anywhere else.  My favourites are:

After sorting out a couple of outfits for impending Weddings I am drawn to corally pink nudes right now and these pretties certainly do not disappoint.  I have seen the cutsy daisy dress in real life and it really is so pretty.  I love it when stores that you once ruled out turn round and surprise you, it's always great to have a new destination to visit when hunting for that something special.

Now if someone can find me some mid height heels to go with my candy pink clutch I will love you forever :)

*this post is in collaboration with Bank*

Swan Song

It seems I am not the only one who fell head over heels for this beautiful Topshop print, I ordered my dress the morning it came online and by lunchtime it had totally sold out! It is back in stock now in smaller sizes but be quick!

Dress: Topshop

In an attempt to brighten up my day and so it feels less like winter I wore the dress with a coral cardigan last week.  It worked well with the beaks... just a shame I had to go for tights too but it was far too cold for bare legs :(  We definitely chose the worst week to have off as holiday, booooooo!!

Whats your favourite animal print item? Link me to any you think I will love, I need more animals in my #wardrobezoo

Zaggora Viva Hotpants Giveaway - NOW CLOSED

I am so excited to be able to host this giveaway and give three of my lovely readers the chance to win a pair of the new Viva Hotpants by Zaggora.  I reviewed the original Hotpants over on Where Are My Knees and I loved them, you can read my full review here.

I received a new pink pair of Viva Hotpants recently and have been working up a sweat in them at the gym.  I am not brave enough to wear them alone so wear them under my regular jogging bottoms which works just as well and helps cut down on the swoosh noise they make.  Apart from helping you lose inches they also make your skin baby soft.  I love the length of these ones, just perfect to cover my knees but not too long that I get too hot exercising in them.

To win one of three pairs of Zaggora Viva Hotpants all you need to do is be a follower of a million dresses via google friend connect and leave a comment below with your email address and which colour Hotpants you would go for.  Easy as pie.  If you would like to tweet a link to the competition I would appreciate but it is not a requirement to enter. The competition is open to worldwide readers  and will close at 6pm on Monday 18th June.  The winner will be picked at random using random.org.

It's a Dog's Life

Today is the last day of my holidays, didn't time that very well did I?! I don't think I have ever known so much rain & misery as this last week.  Someone please tell the sun it is now JUNE and she needs to make an appearance.  Feel guilty for saying I wish it would cool down a little now.  I meant 5 or so degrees cooler not RAIN! Pfftttt.

I am normally not a dog kinda girl, I much prefer cats.  I think little Oreo is to blame, he can't help being a cutie though can he! (he is my sisters new puppy if you are wondering)  So when I now say I hate dogs I am lying, I love Oreo.  My sister will be very pleased with this.  Thankfully he isn't a yappy or smelly dog, still don't like those!

The lovely Ruth at Room31 kindly sent me this cute Brat and Suzie dress which is covered in a cute Boston dog print.  It's made from t-shirt material and quite thin so I think I am going to save it for my next holidays when I will hopefully be on the beach in a bikini because it will not be raining (please don't let it rain!)  Room31 are offering 30% off Brat and Suzie using code BRAT30.  I love the tie front Boston Dog Tee.

 Dress c/o Room31

If you haven't shopped at Room31 I suggest you go take a look at their site and follow them on twitter, they really do offer the most amazing discounts on their twitter - I got this dress with 50% off after using a code that was tweeted.  Result!!

Wednesday Wants

A quick Wednesday wants from me this week, I am hopefully still sleeping when this is published ;)
It seems that my eye has wondered from mint to pinky/peach shades recently.

I adore spots and stripes together meaning this boohoo number was an instant hit with me.  Only reason I haven't ordered it yet is cos it's halterneck... wonder if the ties are long enough to create straps?!  Boohoo have just won an award for Best Online Retailer in the High Street Fashion Awards 2012 on the ITV show Lorraine.  To celebrate they are offering 10% discount to all A Million Dresses readers using the code WINNERHSFA. The code is valid until 30th June.

 Dress: Boohoo

After getting so many lovely tweets and comments on this post I cannot stop looking at this little pink lace number from River Island.  It has the same neck line and straps but is a hefty (for RI) £60! Has anyone seen it in real life yet? Is it extra special quality??

Dress: River Island

This Topshop dress appeals to my inner ballerina with the sticky out tulle skirt.  It also comes in lemon but the pinky/peach version has stolen my heart.  It's beautiful!

London Landmarks

The last of my jubilee dresses is definitely too short on me for bare legs.  This one is age 9-10 from River Islands girls section and once I realised it fit was too cute to put back!  I love that this one has London landmarks all over it and best of all this one was only £12.  Again this dress is now sold out online but you might be able to pick it up in your local store.  I shall be sporting this outfit today as we enjoy our last day in Brixham and tackle the journey back home, got to have something comfy to travel in.

Dress: River Island
I hope you have all had a lovely long weekend and have enjoyed daily posting from me, something I haven't had chance to do in a long time.  I am lucky enough to have the rest of the week booked off too. Lots of lovely lie ins :)

Telephone Boxes and Red Buses

I hope you've all enjoyed a bank holiday lie in, they are all that much sweeter knowing that most other weeks you would be at work.  On the blog today is the second of my jubilee dresses, a little pink number from River Island.  Unfortunately this has now sold out online but they do still have stock in my local River Island so try yours if you want to get your hands on it!  I wore this last weekend to a BBQ and had loads of compliments on it, the print is so cute and I love that the background is baby pink which I would never normally team with red but in this case it works and means I can get away with using my baby pink Zatchels satchel.  Again this dress is just above the knee on me meaning I can go barelegged without feeling too exposed.

Dress: River Island

What are your plans for today?  Anyone going to a jubilee street party? I am incredibly jealous if you are, I always seem to be away for the big community events.  I was on my way to Paris for the Royal Wedding last year.  I think there should be more days of the year that everyone gets together and eats lots of cake :)

God Save the Queen!

I think this dress might just be my favourite of my Jubilee dresses, how cute is that print?!  Perfect for both the Jubilee celebrations and the whole 2012 summer olympic celebrations.  It's a great length too for leg baring for those of us who do not like getting their legs out.  Sometimes needs must and it is just too hot for anything else (not that we have many of those days in the UK!)

As this is published I am currently in Brixham and if the weather forecast is accurate it is raining and I will be wearing tights and maybe even my fur coat if it really is only 12°.  Boohoo.  I know I wished for it to be a bit colder than last weekend but not 15° or so colder and please no rain!

Dress: Yumi

Have you bought any dresses especially for the Jubilee celebrations? Link me to your post/photos, I would love to see!

Jubilee Nails

Nail art is the easiest way to show your patriotism especially when you can easily cheat!  I find wearing paintable falsies so much easier these days, they never chip and you can paint them in advance.  I used my favourite red polish Charlotte Scarlet from Models Own and opted for a ring finger manicure so it's not as OTT especially when I'm going to be wearing it along with one of my jubilee dresses.

You might be thinking that my Union Jack nail is incredibly neat, that's because it is by Primark and not my own fair hands.  For £1 for a set it really wasn't worth my time faffing around and DIYing one myself!  If you like falsies I recommend you try the Primark nails, for the price they are fantastic!

Have you created any cute Jubilee nail art? Link me to your posts and pictures, I would love to see them!

Five Ways To Save Money In Paris

Paris may bear the nickname of the ‘City of Love’, but for a holidaymaker visiting the city for the first time, their feelings may be anything but romantic towards the cost of living in the city. Just like any capital, Paris’ prices are a little higher than in the rest of the country, but don’t be fooled into thinking that you still can’t afford to visit – there are plenty of ways to enjoy cheap holidays to Paris, without missing out on its fantastic attractions. Here are five handy ways to cut the costs during your trip, or afford to do more than you thought!

  • Swap Cabs for Cycles
Notorious for its high volumes of traffic, Paris can be a nightmare to navigate at certain times of the day, which is why increasing numbers of visitors and residents are embracing the city’s Vélib' self-service bike-sharing scheme. At numerous locations around the city you can pick up a Vélib' bike and hire it for as long as you like – you simply pay by the hour using your credit card, plus your first half hour is free! As long as you return the Vélib' bikes to a station when you aren’t using them, you’ll have a cheap and stress-free alternative to taxis, and a much more fun way of getting around than the Metro.

  • Beware of the Expensive Arrondissements
Geographically, Paris is divided up into several neighbourhoods or ‘Arrondissements’, each with their own personality – and radically different price tags. In Paris’ most alluring Arrondissements you’ll find many unmissable attractions, but it’s best to avoid the restaurants, bars and shops there, unless you want to remember your day for the wrong reasons!

The priciest Arrondissements in central Paris are the 6th, home to the exclusive street of Saint Germain-des-Prés on the River Seine, the 7th, which is where you’ll also find the Eiffel Tower and the 8th, which is shared by the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde. Instead of eating and drinking around here, head to the more affordable 9th and 10th Arrondissements, where the locals tend to hang out too.

  • Get Familiar with the Free Museums
You simply can’t miss out on visiting Paris’ best museums during your holiday, but one thing that you can eschew is paying those steep admission fees. If your visit coincides with the first Sunday of the month you’ll be able to enter a number of museums for free, including the Centre Pompidou, the Musée de Orsay and the Louvre – but get to these places as early as possible on the day to beat the queues.

In addition, there are also plenty of other fascinating museums in Paris that never charge an entry fee, such as the Musée des Parfumeries-Fragonard, the Musée Carnavalet or the Museum of Paris History, and the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris or Museum of Modern Art, where you’ll have a memorable day out, without forking out.

  • Seek Out the Happy Hours
Forget eating at your regular mealtimes – dining out in Paris should be dictated by the restaurant lunch deals or happy hours, which are often during the afternoon or early evening. When you arrive in Paris, take a stroll around the area by your hotel to see what’s on offer, and make a note of the times so you don’t miss out.

However, if the weather in Paris is good when you visit, consider ditching the restaurants altogether and just grab a baguette from a boulangerie, and some cheeses from the supermarket, and have a picnic in the park. You’ll also pass a bewildering number of falafel stands on the streets of Paris, which also make delicious and cheap lunchtime options.

  • Don’t Take a Seat
Here’s one way to save money in Paris that we bet will surprise you – when you go into a coffee shop or bar, you’re likely to more for your drinks by being served at a table, than if you simply enjoy your drink standing at the bar. Look out for the price list which should have two sets of prices, one for ‘au comptoir’ or ‘zinc’, which is at the bar, and ‘à terrace’ or ‘salle’, which is taking a seat.

Bear in mind too that the cheapest beverages in Paris are usually coffee, wine and beer, and fizzy drinks, fruit juice and bottled water can be costly. Best to not buy these from a bar or café altogether, and just stock up in the supermarket.

George at Asda Queen's Jubilee Vintage Tea Blogparty

When the lovely people from George at Asda asked if I would like to join them for a vintage tea blogparty in honour of the Queen's Jubilee I jumped at the chance, any excuse to eat cake!  I was asked to chose a dress which best represented my chosen era from the Queen's reign.  I chose the 50's and this beautiful strawberry dress:

 Dress: c/o George at Asda

Isn't it just beautiful?!  It was a big hit with the husband too :)  The package also contained a few essentials for my little party for one so I got my bake on and made a few cupcakes to go with my cheese and marmite or should I say Ma'amite sandwiches.  The Emma Bridgewater fudge was delicious and I adore the box it came in, maybe even more than the actual fudge!  I skipped the tea and went straight for a gin and tonic, it seemed more fitting...

I didn't actually eat all the cakes by the way I have boxed some up ready for our weekend away.  We are off to Brixham and I cannot wait! Fingers crossed we don't have any rain this weekend so I can enjoy a cake by the sea.

I may have had a bit of cake though... can't be good all the time ;)
